Most of us find that changing something about ourselves is very difficult. At the same time, change is often necessary if we are going to improve something. An old quote defines insanity as “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” It is almost impossible to improve without changing something. Many therapies work effectively by helping us make small changes in thinking, which lead to changes in emotions, which lead to changes in behaviors. This works in reverse as well. As a matter of fact, you can start anywhere in the cycle- thoughts, emotions, or behaviors- a small change in any of these areas will affect change in the other areas as well.
